வீல்பேரோ சுரங்கம்
வீல்பேரோ சுரங்கம் (Wheelbarrow Mine) ஐக்கிய அமெரிக்க மாநிலங்களுள் ஒன்றான ஐடாகோவின் லதா மாகாணத்திற்கு சுமார் 10 மைல்கள் (16 km) தொலைவில் இருந்ததாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது.[1][2][3] அறிக்கையிடப்பட்ட இடம் கடல் மட்டத்திலிருந்து 3,871 அடி உயரத்தில், 46.9975° N, 116.7833° W. என்ற அடையாள ஆள் கூறுகளில் அமைந்திருந்தது. 1890 ஆம் ஆண்டிற்கு முன் தோண்டப்பட்டதாக நம்பப்படும் இச்சுரங்கம், இதன் உற்பத்தியாளர்களால் கைவிடப்பட்டு இழக்கப்படுவதற்கு முன் $20,000 தங்கத்தை உற்பத்தி செய்ததாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது.[4][5] உற்பத்தியாளர்களில் ஒருவர் சுரங்கத்தை மீண்டும் கண்டுபிடிக்க அந்த பகுதிக்கு திரும்பினார். ஆனால் அம்முயற்சி தோல்வியடைந்தது. 1939 ஆம் ஆண்டு சூன் மாதத்தில் பிட்சம் சுரங்க நிறுவனத்தைச் சேர்ந்த சுரங்கத் தொழிலாளர்கள், வீல்பேரோ சுரங்கத்தின் எச்சங்களுடன் பொருந்திய கைவிடப்பட்ட சுரங்கத்தைக் கண்டுபிடித்தனர், இங்கிருந்த மனித எலும்புகள் முந்தைய உற்பத்தியாளர்களின் எலும்புகளாக இருக்கலாம் என்று கருதப்படுகிறது.
